Selena Gomez's Stalker Restraining Order Extended

A man accused of stalking teen star Selena Gomez has been kept in psychiatric custody, according to reports.

The 20-year-old was given a temporary restraining order against Thomas Brodnicki and said that she had been left in extreme fear after she received death threats from him in October.

Now, the protection order has been extended, reports E Online.

As Brodnicki has been at the Los Angeles county hospital on a 5150 psychiatric hold, he was unable to argue against the protection order that had been placed on Wednesday (November 23), which means that he is unable to go within 100 feet of the Wizards of Waverly Place star.

Judge William Stewart expressed his concern that Brodnicki was unable to defend himself but still extended the restraining order until early 2012.

He said: "It's a basic due process right and the court isn't satisfied as he has been granted that right."

A new hearing will take place on January 6. A judge had dismissed the case against Brodnicki earlier this month and claimed that "the defendant lacked the intent to cause fear to the victim".
