In a recent interview with People StyleWatch, Selena Gomez revealed that her style icon is *drumroll* Gwyneth Paltrow! She explained, "I think shes so classy and sophisticated, but still very fierce in a way," adding that she often looks to Goop when choosing her red carpet ensembles, "You always notice what shes wearing. Half the time its just like a white dress, but its gorgeous." Gwyneth may seem at first an unlikely fashion hero for Miss Gomez, but after a bit of mulling over, we've deduced that it's actually not that much of a stretch.

They're both singer/actresses. Both insanely gorgeous with pretty straight frames. Both leading ladies for internationally beloved music while also being total superstars on their own. Also, Gwyneth has been killing red carpets since that pink Ralph Lauren dress she wore to the Oscars back in 1999 (which apparently has its own Wikipedia article! Who knew??).

It only seems far off at first glance because Sel doesn't completely swagger jack Gwyneth. She takes certain aspects of Paltrow's style and puts her own Selena spin on them. She appreciates Goop's classic aesthetic but infuses a bit of her natural glamazon with curve-accentuating silhouettes and punky details. She admires Gwyneth's fearless wielding of trends and early adopts midriff-baring red carpet wear with the best of them. What do you think of this fashion match-up?
