Selena Gomez is taking her career seriously, but is still having fun with life
Selena Gomez talks more mature acting roles, music and having a "fun" carefree personal life in Teen Vogue
Selena Gomez got her big break after playing Alex Russo on Disney Channels hit show Wizards of Waverly Place. But while she is grateful for the show and her fans, she is ready to prove to everyone that she is more than just a Disney star.
In the September issue of Teen Vogue, the 20-year-old says that she is growing up and maturing. She not only wants her new music to reflect that, she also wants her films to do it as well.
Gomez says she no longer wants to take on teen roles. Instead, she wants to create a different persona as an actress.
Selena, who plays a bad girl role in the upcoming film Spring Breakers, just signed on to do a dark comedy, Parental Guidance Suggested, which also stars Nat Wolff. She says she wants to be taken seriously as an actress.
"Being part of the Disney Channel was such a blessing, and I'm super happy with what my show accomplished, but acting is something I would like to take on more seriously. I don't necessarily feel accomplished. I want to create a whole different persona when it comes to acting, she said, explaining that when she auditioned for her more mature roles she asked to be given a chance.
I said, I know I havent done much and that taking a chance on me is a risk because its like, Oh, a Disney kid. I just want you to know that I would work really hard. I want to do things like this.!
Selena has worked on multiple films this year alone. While she is taking acting more seriously, she is also taking music seriously as well. She plans to return to music when shes done shooting new movies. She says her music will be more mature.
"It's going to be differenta little older but still really fun, she said, revealing her dream collaboration is with Justin Timberlake. I love his music sooo much."
But while Selena Gomez is evolving as an actress and singer and hopes to be taken seriously, there is one thing that shes not so serious about right now, and that is her life.
She says she feels lucky to have a fun relationship with boyfriend Justin Bieber. She adds, though, shes not going to be like Miley Cyrus.
"Marriage and all that other stuff I think will happen once I feel accomplished in every other aspect of my life, she said, according to MTV News. "I'm 20. I don't take anything in my personal life too seriously. I have great friends and a solid group of people I love. I feel like everything else will come organically."
