Oh ye of little faith! Will Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez really break up by Christmas?
There are a lot of psychic fans out there convinced the young couple will reach a sad place called Splitsville -- and that it'll happen within the next few months, just in time to be miserable for the holidays. More than 25,000 fans have already taken the trouble to participate in an ongoing, online poll called, "How Long will Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez Last?"
This is how these jaded fans responded:
A few more weeks 19.2% (4,829 votes)
A few more months 45.84% (11,528 votes)
A few more years 16.52% (4,156 votes)
Forever 18.44% (4,637 votes)
The biggest question is: Why are fans actively ignoring what Bieber and Gomez are saying about their being in love forever and ever? The 17-year-old Canadian lad gave a very candid interview about his relationship with the brunette actress, two years his senior; gushing to Britain's New! Magazine about how great she is.
"I wouldn't be with somebody if I wasn't in love," said Bieber, who's been dating Gomez for more than a year and said their similar family background -- they were both raised by single mothers -- has helped them understand one another.
"Everybody can see she is hot!" Bieber enthused. "But there's so much more to her than that. She makes me laugh""
Some of his friends have suggested Biebs spoils Gomez on an almost daily basis with flowers, expensive bon-bons and jewelry because he's insecure about the two-year age differenc! e. When you're that young, two years is a long time. But maybe that's what's keeping Bieber on his best behaviour.
"She is his dream girl. He really wants to impress her," a friend of Justin is quoted as saying. "Every date is a production, from bodyguards to flowers to private jets to catered meals. Plus, he buys her major gifts."
Bieber even said he sees himself being married by 30 because "I want to be a young dad."
While long love usually has a habit of burning out quickly, there are some notable exceptions in the entertainment world. Here's just two examples:
Paul & Linda McCartney
They met at the height of the cute Beatle's career in 1967. Linda was a photographer who snapped his picture for a rock magazine. It was instant love and they were married about a year later. Considered to be the music industry's most successful long-term marriage, they stayed together until Linda's death in 1998.
Marie Osmond & Stephen Craig
Back in the day, Marie Osmond was considered one of the hottest acts around. Still, she left the dating world at 22-years-old when she married Stephen Craig, 25, a pro-basketball player for BYU.
The marriage went through some ups and downs -- the couple actually divorced at one point -- but now they're back together, remarried and apparently living their happy ever after.
