Selena Gomez wasnt popular at school

Selena Gomez has revealed that she hasnt always been so popular, and that when she was at school she was something of a bookworm.

The Wizards of Waverly Place star, who is now so popular that Justin Bieber fancies her (hes never told us that straight out, but we figure he does considering they go out and all) said: 'I was never the popular kid at school. I had two friends, but I just sat at the back of the room and got on with my work.

"School is such an awkward time in your life. I was never confident in school."

Unlike now, where she's had death threats from Beliebers simply for having the gall to go out with Justin, she was never bullied at school. Shes put this down to her cousin being in the cheerleading team: 'Nobody picked on me because my cousin was one of the popular gang.

"She was always very protective of me, so I guess I was very lucky."

She also spoke out about how she never had a boyfriend at school: I never went out with guys at school. I had a crush on a guy, but I never told him about it. I did the thing that a lot of girls do: I avoided him!"

"You need that self confidence if you want to chat to the guy you like. If youre confident with yourself, and youre okay with that, then you should go for it."

She did the interview to promote Superbia, an online game where Wizards of Waverly Place fans can dress up like their favourite characters. Exactly the type of thing Selena wouldve played when she didnt have any mates. disney.co.uk/superbia/
