Because you can't talk about "Spring Breakers" without talking about Selena Gomez's giant professional jump from Disney-channel family fare to alcohol-fueled mayhem and a solid R rating, our latest sit-down with the cast included the question on everyone's mind: How, exactly, did Selena find her way from wizarding on Waverly Place to partying it up in South Beach?

For starters, as it turns out, she had some maternal guidance:

"My mom is actually a big Harmony Korine fan," she explained, referring to the "Spring Breakers" director. So when the script was sent to her agent, she said, "I read it, I watched all his movies with my mom, and I wanted to be a part of it."

In fact, she pursued the role all the way to Korine's home in Nashville, where she auditioned and ! read alongside eventual co-star Rachel Korine. But despite the film being very different from her previous work, and despite the endless discussion of her choice to do such a gritty flick, Selena admitted that shocking her fans was more or less the last thing on her mind.

"It wasn't necessarily about the reaction. It was about me wanting to do something that was creatively challenging," she said. "I wanted to do something that would challenge myself, and see how far I could go."

Which, if you know anything at all about "Spring Breakers," you know ended up being very far indeed. (And if you don't... well, brace yourself! It's CRAZY.)

What do you think of Selena's choice to challenge herself with her "Spring Breakers" role?
