Selena Gomez to executive produce 'Wizards of Waverly Place' movie
Selena Gomez has signed on to executive produce a "Wizards of Waverly Place" reunion TV movie to air on Disney early next year.

"I'm working on my new record and I had great projects I was a part of this year, but 'Wizards' and Disney Channel and everything that is a part of this is my home," Gomez told Radio Disney of the special. "I'm not ready for it to be over, so I just kind of want to do one more thing."
The 20-year-old actress and pop star will star in the movie, which will follow the show's Russo family on a trip to Tuscany, to meet their long-lost relatives. In a big to impress her family, Alex (Gomez) accidentally creates a good and! an evil version of herself. When the evil Alex falls for a charming wizard who wants her to help him take over the world, good Alex is forced to battle her other side on the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
"I think she'll be great because she's great at seeing the whole picture," Maria Canals-Barrera, who portrays Gomez's mom on the show told E! Online of her young co-star. "She's not just focused on her part. She's the kind of actor that can see the whole story."
The movie, which is slated to start production in October, will also star the popular Disney series' cast members Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, David DeLuise and Gregg Sulkin.
Of working with Gomez, Canals-Barrera said, "She's so good that whatever stuff we'd have to do together, it was so satisfying because she's so good. She's so talented."
"Wizards of Waverly Place" aired for four seasons, before wrapping on January 6 with nearly 10 million viewers, making it the show's most-watched episode.
"With the phenomenal ratings of the 'Wizards' finale earlier this year, it became clear that fans of the series were not ready to say goodbye to Selena or the rest of the 'Wizards' cast," Disney Channel's worldwide chief creative officer Gary Marsh said in a statement. "As such, we're thrilled that the cast has agreed to reunite to bring their fans one last grand adventure."
Recently, Gomez made headlines for her parody of the erotic novel "Fifty Shades of Grey". The actress took part in! the vide! o for FunnyorDie.com in May, and it was titled "Fifty Shades of Blue." Comedian Nick Kroll plays Gomez's love interest, an artist named Carl Blue (See video).
Gomez voiced a lead character in the new film "Hotel Transylvania," which also features Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg. The animated film, which hit theaters on September 28, is currently No. 1 in Friday's box office, after earning $11 million on its opening night.
