The 19-year-old pop singer and former Disney Channel actress, also known as the girlfriend of fellow teen star Justin Bieber, told OnTheRedCarpet.com that she sniffed many different fragrances for three hours until she found the perfect one.
"I had three hours of testing, the first time I went into the lab, I guess, and they had a little briefcase and I went through three hours of smelling every kind of scent there is possible in the world," she said. "So that one was a really long process. But what we did for the final, final fragrance was my fans got to pick out the final one with me."
Gomez's fans participated in an online vote to select the three scents that would make up the fragrance, which is bottled in a sleek, purple bottle resembling a gown, topped with gold and purple lips. They selected raspberry, purple freesia and vanilla.
"My mom wears it every day," the singer said. "She loves it and she gets so excited to wear it. It's just timeless. It's a very fresh, classic scent that you could wear at any age. It's not overbearing."
Her fragrance will be available in May at Macy's department stores and will be sold at Nordstrom, Dillard's and Ulta later in the summer.
Gomez is also concentrating on her acting career. Gomez rose to fame with the Disney Channel series "The Wizards of Waverly Place," which aired its final episode in January, and has starred in films such as "Ramona and Beezus" and "Monte Carlo." She can be seen next in the comedy "Spring Breakers," alongside James Franco and Vanessa Hudgens, another Disney Channel alum who starred in the "High School Musical" movies.
In the film, she plays one of four college girls who rob a restaurant to pay for a spring break vacation. They are s! ent to j ail and get involved with Franco's character, a drug and arms dealer, who bails them out. The film is set for release in 2013.
"It was really, really fun. It's an independent movie and it's a little bit smaller but it's a very different role than anything I've done before," Gomez told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "James Franco plays this character who's more of like kind of, not the villain, necessarily, but he's the one that kind of gets us into a little bit of a mess and he's just really great to work with. And Vanessa's been amazing. It was a great, great shoot."
"I really have been very proud of everything that I've done so far and I've always wanted to make sure that I did it to the best I can do it, so I'm not really familiar with a lot of films, so I've been really enjoying kind of stepping more into films, which is a really big passion of mine," she said. "But what I'm into now is going to change five years from now, so it's just about pacing myself and hopefully doing a good job up until then."(Copyright 2012 OnTheRedCarpet.com. All Rights Reserved.)
